Botetourt County Fire & EMS Department

Botetourt County has seven fire stations operating as part of a unified fire and EMS system known as Botetourt County Fire & EMS. All stations provide fire protection services and six stations provide ambulance services. Five stations are staffed by a combination of career and volunteer personnel. Station 6 is staffed solely by volunteer personnel and Station 7 is staffed solely by career personnel. Station 1, Station 2, Station 3, Station 4, Station 5, and Station 7 have 24/7 career ambulances staffed by Botetourt County Fire & EMS. On a limited basis, Station 7 houses a career ambulance staffed by Roanoke County Fire & Rescue. Station 7 also has a 24/7 career fire engine staffed by Botetourt County Fire & EMS. Field supervisors employed by Botetourt County Fire & EMS operate from Station 1 and Station 4. Botetourt County Fire & EMS administrative staff are headquartered in an office located in the town of Fincastle.

Station 7 - Read Mountain

The Read Mountain station was established as a partnership between Roanoke County and Botetourt County. In 2020, the station transitioned from a Roanoke County fire station (Roanoke County Company 12) to a Botetourt County fire station. Read Mountain is dispatched to calls by both jurisdictions.

  • Fire Ambulance # - A Basic Life Support (BLS) staffed ambulance that is cross-trained in firefighting
  • Ambulance # - A BLS staffed ambulance

Personnel Designations

Career

Botetourt County Fire & EMS career personnel not assigned to station apparatus are issued radio designations that are specific to their role.

  • County 1 - Chief of Department
  • County 2 - Deputy Chief of Department
  • County 11 - Captain of Field Operations (Shift Officer and Southern EMS Duty Officer)
  • County 12 - Lieutenant of Field Operations (Northern EMS Duty Officer)
  • EM 1 - Emergency Manager
  • Fire 3 - Captain of Station 3 Administration
  • OMD 1 - Operational Medical Director
  • Prevention # - Fire Investigator
  • Support 7 - Fleet Manager
  • Training # - Training Officer

Volunteer

Botetourt County Fire & EMS volunteers are issued a three digit number for radio use and department accountability. Each agency is in charge of determining the qualifications for issuing radio numbers to their personnel. The first number is the same as the volunteer's home station number. The second number is used to distinguish if the volunteer is a part of the fire department or rescue squad. The third number does not have a specific meaning.

  • #60-#99 - Formerly used for volunteer Rescue (EMS) personnel


Volunteer Fire and Rescue officers are assigned a radio designation that is specific to their rank.
